Charting Frontiers

By December 27, 2018 No Comments
Refugees flooding the European Union, Rohingyas swarming Bangladesh, Trump pledging to build a Mexico-US border wall, and heightened tensions along the 38th Parallel. Borders are now in the news more than ever. While they can be geographies of strain, they are also avenues of collaboration. Ambassador Lee Sun-Jin will share his personal experiences and insights on cross-border projects pursued by China such as the Myanmar-Kunming oil pipeline, Kunming-Laos railroad, and China-Vietnam border trade at this inaugural CSIS Pacific Forum for Young Leaders (Singapore Chapter) event held at 1880.

Young Leaders Programme at Pacific Forum Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)
The programme serves as a catalyst for greater exchange of views between young and seasonal professionals in international relations and politics, and to enrich dialogues with generational perspectives. It seeks to develop leaders who are committed to improving political, economic, and strategic security across Asia Pacific.

Lee Sun-Jin is a former ambassador of South Korea to Indonesia. He served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Korea from 1975 to 2008. He had been posted to various Korean diplomatic missions in the USA, China and Japan. He has retired from MOFA and is currently a professor and a lecturer at Sogang University in South Korea.

Shawn Ho (moderator) is the coordinator of the Singapore Chapter of the Pacific Forum CSIS Young Leaders Program, and an Associate Research Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) in Singapore. His research interests are in East Asian politics, security, and history (in particular Korean Peninsular affairs).
