The loss of biodiversity is a silent killer that requires urgent and sustained attention. While scientists have warned that 1 million of the 8 million species on Earth are threatened with extinction by us, humankind is also capable of saving the best planet we know.

John Scanlon is Special Envoy at African Parks and was formerly the Secretary-General of the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
