MITTY MARTIN, OUR HEAD OF MEMBERSHIP
You are hosting a dinner party for three. Who would you invite (dead or alive) and why?
Goldie Hawn – We did a few events with her back in the UK and she really knows how to have fun but she’s also a very interesting and kind person.
Lady Gaga – she’s quirky and fun. I wonder what she would wear to my dinner party!? Having seen her perform for a small private audience at Annabel’s I know she would be a great addition to my dinner party and provide some amazing entertainment.
Michael McIntyre – he is hilarious, I love him.
What experience has had the greatest impact on your life?
I completed my Dive Master in 2004 and left Koh Phi Phi Island to return home to Singapore 2 days before the tsunami. As an experienced diver, I was asked to return to Koh Phi Phi to lead various volunteer teams in a dive search and clean up operation over 3 months post-tsunami. One day we were digging up the entire contents of a bar that had been swept into the ocean from Ton Sai village and the next we were recovering bones, passports, and other forms of identification to send back to the mainland in the hope of giving some closure to anyone that lost a loved one of this awful awful day. This was possibly one of the hardest, most emotional, challenging, on some days absolutely unbearable but best experiences in my life. It always reminds me of how lucky I am and that you can ALWAYS make a difference, no matter how small the task.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
At home in the UK with my husband and family including Frodo (the black lab), playful conversation, and a competitive board game with a glass of red wine!
What is the best compliment you’ve received?
Being British, I’m pretty good at brushing off compliments but I was told by one of our members at Grace Belgravia where I used to work that my energy, enthusiasm, and honest smile always brightened up their day.
Who are your heroes in life?
I consider myself lucky to say I have many: my husband, my family, and my friends. Everyone plays different heroes at different times in my life.
What would you have as your last meal?
Chocolate & Champagne!
Choose a song that best describes you / What’s your favourite song?
Jackson 5’s Blame it on the Boogie
What’s the best advice you’ve received (business, life, health, relationships etc.)?
My dad told me from a young age (and continues to tell me) that you should treat everyone as equals and always treat people the way you want to be treated.
Thank you, Mitty!
